It Begins With a Birthday

There's nothing like a birthday to help you reflect on your life to that point. I just recently celebrated my 45th birthday. As I was sitting there with my husband, enjoying a nice glass of wine, I realized that I'd been waiting around for a great many things. Waiting around to finish my PhD, waiting around to lose all the weight I'd gained since age 31, and waiting around to start get serious about getting off the high blood pressure and cholesterol medicine. Waiting. If I waited much longer, I'd be dead! So, I thought...five years. We often ask candidates for employment where they envision themself in five years. I realized I had a great opportunity to envision a better me. Where do I want to be in five years? On paper, on purpose:

I want to be healthy.
I want to be happy in my personal and social life.
I want to be happy and fulfilled in my career.

As my blogs continue, I will define these three goals, which, for the moment, are pretty general. I will chronicle my journey by providing pictures, data, and reflections. This is pretty exciting for me. I hope I can inspire someone else to quit waiting, too. Goodness knows, there will plenty of time for that later!
